Road Safety Campaign

Dear Parent,

You may be aware that parking and pupil safety at the end of the school day has been a matter of concern at Brownhill for some time. The Leeds City Council Road Safety Team, in conjunction with West Yorkshire Police, are trying an initiative next Monday after school to try to improve matters.

As an initial way to emphasise to parents the importance of parking correctly and driving safely around school at 3.15, we are asking for the help of a small number of Year 6 pupils. We are hoping that you will allow your child to take part.

Just before the end of school on Monday (18th September), the chosen pupils will be outside school with members of the Road Safety Team and Police. The children will be dressed in police style jackets and will look for drivers breaking the rules. They will be able to give the drivers a “ticket” to remind them about their future responsibilities. The idea is to make people more aware of the dangers and for them to respond positively. If this way of drawing attention to problems does not resolve them, then the police may well return and take more official action.

Children will be accompanied by members of the Safety Team or the police at all times. The children should be free to leave at around 3.30. If you feel that this is something you are willing for your child to take part in, please complete the form attached and return on Monday. Thank you for your help.

Yours sincerely,

Alan Scott
