October half term 2007 – Newsletter
Parents’ Consultation Evenings
We will be holding two Parents’ Consultation Evenings early in November. We will be offering you the opportunity to meet with teachers to discuss your child’s progress and targets for them to follow for the rest of the year. The dates are Tuesday 6th November and Wednesday 7th November.
We will be changing the format of the evenings this time, to try to make the meetings more convenient for parents. I will send out details and appointment booking slips at the beginning of the first week after half term.
Nature Garden
We have been unable to use the Nature Garden for some time since vandals made the area unsafe and it then became overgrown. To reclaim the area and make it usable for the children again, we have contracted the firm who carry out our gardening and landscape work to make substantial changes to the area.
The changes will include a wooden fence along the outer perimeter, bushes and undergrowth removed, trees pruned, the ground levelled and bark laid on the floor. The existing fence will be removed after all work is complete. This will then allow us to use the garden as a shaded area during the summer months and to be a feature rather than an overgrown eyesore. We expect work to start in the winter months.
Attendance
Please help us by ensuring that your child attends school regularly and on time. It is an accepted fact that progress at school suffers when children’s attendance is irregular or poor. The national average school attendance for primary school pupils is around 95% - this works out to be about 9 days off school in a year for each pupil.
Average attendance at Brownhill last year was 92% - this is around 16 days off school in a year for each pupil. Obviously we know that some pupils at Brownhill have good or excellent attendance: let’s all try for really good attendance and punctuality for all of our children and help them to do their best at school.
We appreciate that there will be times when children are ill and need time off school to recover, but it would be great if we could really improve the school attendance overall this year!
