Time Out:

You may be aware that school uses a time out system as a sanction for pupils who are not behaving appropriately. The time out given is a missed break time and will only be used when staff feel that they have given pupils opportunities to return to more acceptable behaviour but this has not happened.

A record is kept of the number of time outs that children are given. If a child is visiting the time out room too regularly then we feel that we must inform parents. We have recently decided to update our time out system and our contacts with parents regarding time out. The system will be:

I hope that by taking swift action together we will be able to prevent pupils from continuing to misbehave to the point where their behaviour requires more drastic action.

Parental concerns expressed:

A number of parents have spoken to me recently about the constant problem of headlice. I know that this is a problem common to all schools but this is no consolation when you have to keep treating your child’s head. Could I thank all parents for their vigilance and ask that you continue to do all you can to check your child’s hair and take appropriate action.

On a similar note, a parent approached me last week to inform me that their child had come home from school with a cat/dog flea on them and corresponding bites. The parent concerned asked me if I would mention this in my next newsletter as there are no pets at home and she could only imagine that it had been passed on at school. I explained that whilst this might be true but I was sure that families with pets were already doing their best to keep pet flea problems under control.

Thank you again for all your support for school.
