Newsletter for Parents
February half – term 2008
Parents’ Consultation Evenings
We will be holding two Parents’ Consultation Evenings in March. The dates are:
Tuesday 18th March and Wednesday 19th March, 2008.
We hold the Consultation Evenings at this time of the year, rather than in July; this means that any developments teachers and parents identify for pupils, helping them to make even more progress, can be carried out before the end of the year. At the end of the school year we will be sending reports to parents as usual.
You will remember that in October, at our last Parents’ Consultation Evenings, we trialled a new system. The start time for the consultations was 2.30pm. We asked parents to complete a questionnaire about the new system and over 90 parents responded. Feedback from parents who responded to our questionnaire was 100% positive to keep the new system. Staff also had the opportunity to comment and reported that they saw more parents than when we were using the old system.
We will therefore be using the same timings as in October. I will take a long assembly beginning at 2.20pm and staff will begin consultations at 2.30pm. Because children are in assembly, parents with early appointments will be able to have a free cup of tea or coffee (and a biscuit!) in the community room until about 3.10pm.
Attendance
We have had a difficult time with attendance recently with the sickness bugs and some cases of chicken pox. Could I urge all parents to try to ensure that their child’s attendance is as high as possible. Even an attendance level of 90%, which sounds good, means that a child misses 4 weeks of school over the year (or one day every two weeks). The Government has an expectation of 95% attendance for all children. Thank you to those parents whose children are already reaching or exceeding this target.
