Summer Term – Year 5

During the next few weeks I will be covering the work listed below.

Please help me by talking to me at home about my work.

English

Learning spellings and applying knowledge of spelling rules (including weekly spelling test)

Extended writing where a number of fiction and non-fiction text work will be covered.

Understand and develop grammar, punctuation to develop more complex sentences.

Different Cultural stories, Persuasion.

Note taking, Narrative styles, Poetry.

Regular handwriting practice.

Regular reading practice.

Mathematics

Regular multiplication tables practice.

Place value and the four number operations

 Length, Time, volume and weight.

Problem solving.

Using a calculator.

Other Subjects

Please help me with my own research work for some of these subjects.

This will include using the Internet, going to the library and museum trips and will help to add to what I have learnt in school.

 

P.E – Please remember your P.E kit –Wednesday /Friday

History – To find out about Queen Victoria, her family, record characteristic features of Victorian buildings, compare modern and Victorian schooling ,Life of children in Victorian times, features of Victorian transport and industry.

Science – Earth and space- Sun, Earth and Moon are spherical, sizes of the sun, Moon and Earth, Earth that moves, not the sun, shadows.

Changing sound – sounds are made when objects vibrate, identify the types of material through which sound travels, plan a fair test, make conclusion.

Art – Work on famous artists e.g.William Morris, Collage- Making portraits, Sketchingand painting.
