Internet Safety

Top tips for Safe Surfing

Keep it to Yourself
Would you give exact details about where you live to a total stranger you have just met at the bus stop? Of course you wouldn't. In the same way you should never tell people you meet on the Internet your address, phone number or email.

Don't Trust Strangers
When you are using the Internet, you cannot tell when a person is being honest about who and what they are. So it's important to think carefully before starting a conversation with him/her. The great news about GridClub is that all members are either children from primary schools or mediators. This means that the Clubhouse is a safe place for children to talk to each other.

Beware of Meeting Web 'Pals'
You should never, ever arrange to meet someone you meet online unless your parents are fully aware of what is happening.

Don't Answer Bad Messages
If you come across messages that are nasty, rude, racist, threatening or that make you feel uncomfortable, do not answer them. Tell an adult. In Gridclub you can contact a mediator.

Amazing but True - or is it?
Don't believe everything you read on the Internet. Some stories have been deliberately made up.

The World is Watching
The Internet has a worldwide audience. Remember anyone can read what you have written. Don't write anything that could upset anyone
.
