Brownhill Primary School

Anti-Bullying Rules

Introduction

1.1 Bullying is when one or more children harm another child on purpose, by hitting or hurting their feelings.

Aim and objectives

2.1 Bullying is wrong and hurts children. We do all we can to stop bullying in our school and bullying is not allowed.

2.2 We try as a school to make our school safe and free, so we can learn.

2.3 These rules try to stop bullying and treat it the same way in all classes in our school.

2.4 We try to show parents, children and governors that bullying is serious to our school and we want to stop it.

The job of the governors

(A governor is a person who helps to run the school and make decisions with the head teacher)

3.1 The governors help the head, teacher to stop bullying in school. The rules (policy) say that governors should not let bullying happen as it is against the rules and should deal seriously with bullying.

3.2 The governors must keep an eye on bullying and the head teacher must write down all bullying problems.

3.3 The governors have to find out why a child has hurt another child by bullying (within ten days).

The job of the headteacher

The role of the teacher

5.1 Teachers in our school take all bullying seriously and stop bullying from happening. They write down when bullying takes place.

5.2 If teachers see bullying they help the child who is being bullied. If the bullying happens over a long time then they will talk to parents.

5.3 We keep a book in the headteacher’s office of all bullying. If any adult in school sees bulling they must record it in the book.

5.4 We deal with bullying straight away. This may be helping the person who has been bullied or punishing the bully. We talk to the child and explain why it is wrong and help them to change. If the bullying does not stop the headteacher must be told. We then invite parents to talk about it. If the bullying is serious the headteacher may contact people outside of school.

5.5 Teachers should go on training to help them deal with bullying.

5.6 Teachers help to support all children in their class and respect and trust them by praising all children who help to stop bullying.

The role of the parents

6.1 Parents who are worried that their child might be being bullied or think their child might be bullying should talk to their class teacher straight away.

6.2 Parents should support the school’s rules on bullying and make their child be a good pupil in school.

Monitoring and reviewing

7.1 The rules are looked at by the headteacher, who talks to the governors, to make sure the rules are working well in school.

7.2 The rules are the responsibility of the governors and they must check that the rules are working well.

This policy was re-written by year 6 pupils so that all children in school could read and understand our school rules on bullying.
